The 2017 Round the Island Race, presented by Cloudy Bay was a huge success and there are many teams to mention for their outstanding achievements. Let’s start off by saying congratulations to skipper Steve Durkin, celebrity crew member (and brand ambassador) Ben Fogle, Helena Lucas MBE and the rest of the Cloudy Bay sailing team for a superb day on the water to secure a respectable result on their Farr52!

The big news of the day was Adam Gosling’s ‘YES!’ that took home the biggest prize of the day, the coveted Gold Roman Bowl, awarded to the overall winner of the race on corrected time based on the IRC rating system.
Another highlight is that the MOD70 mulyihull Concise 10 is now the fastest boat ever to go around the Island during this race. Last year a new outstanding record was set by Phaedo3, but Concise 10 managed to beat this by 1 minute with an elapsed time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 23 seconds!
Also, the yacht to take home the Cloudy Bay Trophy for the Fast 40+ class was Invictus. Sir Keith Mills’ Ker40+ Invictus, helmed by Keith and his son Alex, took line honours for the FAST40+ Class, and the class win after IRC time correction to win the FAST40+ Cloudy Bay Trophy along with several bottles of their superb wines!
Notable results;

1st place – Gold Roman Bowl winner – YES!
2nd place – Silver Roman Bowl winner – Highland Fling
3rd place – Royal Thames Challenge Trophy winner – Salvo
ISC RS (Island Sailing Club Handicap)
1st place – Silver Gilt Roman Bowl winner – Antilope
