Every summer, the Solent off the Isle of Wight comes alive with one of the world’s most iconic sailing events — Cowes Week. In 2026, this legendary regatta reaches an extraordinary milestone: 200 years of racing, spectating and seaside celebration. From 1–7 August 2026, Cowes will be at the heart of a historic bicentenary celebration that honours two centuries of sailing tradition.
Since its humble beginnings in 1826, when seven cutters raced for a £600 gold cup off Cowes Castle, Cowes Week has grown into a global gathering of sailors, spectators and festival-goers. Today up to 1,000 boats and thousands of competitors take part across multiple classes.
Cowes Week’s plans for its bicentenary year, include special anniversary races, a Parade of Sail, and spectacular shoreside entertainment. Events at the Parade Village and Northwood House, live music and festival zones, classic fireworks and aerial displays by the Red Arrows – simply too much to mention! The official charity partner for the celebrations, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, will also be showcased throughout the week.
How You Could Be Part of It

Spectate from the shore – Cowes Week’s festival atmosphere draws crowds ashore and on spectator boats alike, with plenty of bars, live music stages and social buzz right in town. If you would like to get across with guests, why not charter a skippered Rib for private transport.
