With our Marine based events season starting shortly, you might be wondering why we mainly use the Solent for our events.
The answer is simple in that the area of water between the Isle of Wight and the South Coast of the UK, known as ‘The Solent’ enjoys sheltered waters for most of the year as the land masses of the Island and mainland protect the sea in between from both wind and waves that would otherwise roll in from the English Channel.
Stunning start and finish locations such as Lymington in the New Forest boast great hotels and dining opportunities. The harbour towns of Cowes and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight are just a short hop across the water making them very popular destinations for lunches ashore or overnight stays.
We also benefit from great marinas with good transport links to Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington. Sailing days from London without the need for overnight accommodation are totally possible with fast trains from London reaching the South Coast in less than an hour and a half. The motorway network also means you can exit the M27 and be in several of the marinas in a matter of minutes.
There is always somewhere nice to sail or cruise to with beautiful coastline along the way and with the popularity of boating in the area, there’s always something to see whether this is yacht racing, sailing dinghies or wind surfers or kite surfers. For those looking for something larger the area is rich in bigger vessels from Cruise Liners and Container Ships to Aircraft Carriers and other warships. Tranquil sheltered anchorages are dotted around the area to relax and have lunch, swim and take in the sea air.
If you have not been on the Solent yet, we urge you to come and see what you have been missing. You can of course jump on a Ferry but why do this when Solent Events offer such a wide range of marine based events to help you enjoy this amazing stretch of water in Style!
