We talk a lot about visiting the Isle of Wight using one of our boats and quite rightly so, it is lovely. However, with autumn in full swing in our lovely New Forest, it is time to talk about another gem – Beaulieu River. Winding through peaceful woodland, salt marshes and unspoilt countryside, it offers a welcome escape from the busier and “wilder” waters of the Solent. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the riverbanks as you enjoy the tranquillity and ever-changing scenery.
Nestled on its banks is Buckler’s Hard, a charming 18th-century shipbuilding village where ships for Nelson’s Navy were once built. Today, its historic cottages lead down to the river, where you can explore the Maritime Museum and discover the village’s fascinating maritime past.
For a memorable lunch stop, head to The Master Builder’s House Hotel, situated on the banks of the Beaulieu River at nearby Buckler’s Hard. This historic riverside hotel, named after shipbuilder Henry Adams, offers a beautiful setting to enjoy lunch overlooking the water.
Pannage season runs to the end of November this year. On top of the New Forest ponies, deer, cattle and donkeys, about 600 pigs will be roaming around, clearing the forest floor of fallen acorns which are poisonous to the ponies and cattle.

Whether you’re exploring the village, enjoying a leisurely lunch ashore or taking in the scenery from the boat, Beaulieu River and Buckler’s Hard offer a wonderful escape from daily life and weather!
