We are just over a month into 2022 and despite a cautious start to the year, it is clear that people are feeling optimistic about the summer to come – enquiries about spending quality time on the water, with colleagues, clients and friends, are coming in thick and fast. Obviously, we couldn’t be happier than to share our wonderful Solent with you; to get you out there on yachts, Ribs or motor cruisers, or even just to ferry you across to the lovely Isle of Wight for a fantastic lunch, looking out over the water!
To help you plan, whether that is targeting or avoiding specific marine events, we thought it might be useful to give a little listing of the “big dates on the Solent”.
Round the Island Race – Saturday 25th June 2022
Billed as “Britain’s favourite race”, it also carries the reputation as a “Race for All”. Keen amateur and professional sailors, first-timers and families, all compete on the same course around the Island. The Solent will be awash with colour when the yachts successfully fly their spinnakers – a sight to behold!
British Classic Week – Saturday 16th – Saturday 23rd July
This annual classic yacht regatta organised by the British Classic Yacht Club (BCYC) will see its 20th anniversary in 2022. The regatta is a celebratory occasion for classic boat enthusiasts to enjoy good racing and to spend time with fellow sailors who share the same appreciation of classic yachts. The six-race series, organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron, will see a wide entry of beautiful classic yachts from home and abroad, race the waters of the Solent.
Cowes Week – Saturday 30th July – Friday 5th August
Cowes Week first took place in 1826 – now around 800 boats and 8,500 competitors enter Cowes Week every year.
As an official charter supplier, Solent Events knows everything there is to know about Cowes Week – whether you’re chartering a yacht and racing, spectating from a luxury sailing or power boat, or getting in amongst the action in one of our high-speed Ribs. We have joined forces with the Royal Ocean Racing Club to provide VIP hospitality in their well-positioned clubhouse; their terrace and garden overlook the castle and harbour. Cowes Week is famous for its festival atmosphere with many parties, live music, alfresco bars, black tie balls and fireworks!
Little Britain Challenge Cup – Friday 9th – Saturday 10th September
The Little Britain Challenge Cup is the largest industry regatta for construction and property related businesses. Since its inception in 1988 it has raised over £1.25 million for charity.
