With just over 3 weeks to go, the standard entries for the iconic Round the Island Race close on the 1st June, with late entries allowed until the 12th June.
One of the largest yacht races in the world, this amazing and unique one-day yacht race, anti-clockwise around the Isle of Wight, regularly attracts over a thousand boats and ten times as many sailors – with a record 1,875 entries in 2008!
Since the very first race in 1931, this “handicap race for smaller boats”, has had as the top trophy the Gold Roman Bowl.
Record breaking has been an important feature of the race – with the 1961 introduction of a multihull class, Sir Ben Ainslie managed to get under the 3 hour mark in 2013, and the current record stands at 2 hours, 22 minutes and 23 seconds, set by Ned Collier Wakefield in 2017.
Charity fundraising has always been a fun and exciting part of the Race. Many charitable causes benefit, including the official Race charity, The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. In total, the amount raised for good causes since 2010 has reached the amazing sum of £500,000.
For 2024 the Round the Island Race has announced a new LIVE Stage Leaderboard, as well as a new Official Shoreside Hospitality Venue, located on The Parade in Cowes near the Island Sailing Club and will feature a large Crew Bar Marquee, live entertainment and several food offerings from local Isle of Wight restaurants. It will be open from Friday 14th June to Sunday 16th June.
If you would like to take part in the “Race for All”, we still have a few yachts available for charter. If you’d rather enjoy the spectacle and soak up the atmosphere from the side-lines, why not charter one of our skippered Ribs, and get close to the action near the famous Needles?
